Road Department
The Road Dept. maintains 440 miles of road in Wheatland county, including nine miles of asphalt.

The department maintains 168 cattle guards, along with numerous culverts and bridges
Wheatland County employs a six man road crew. They currently have four road graders used for grading roads and plowing snow.
The road crew’s working hours are Monday-Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., however they occasionally work extended hours when get called out for plowing snow, for flooding events, or fighting wildland fires if needed.

Snow Removal Priorities:
- Highways
- Bus Routes
- Mail Routes
- Roads with the most population and vehicle use
During winter months we stage a plow at Judith Gap, Shawmut, and Two Dot, leaving one that is staged and works out of the county shop at Harlowton.
The Wheatland County Roads Department is responsible for:
- Grading and maintaining the road surface.
- Mowing the tops of the roads and barrow pits.
- Maintaining cattle guards, welding and cleaning them out.
- Sign maintenance, putting up new signs, or replacing old and damaged ones
- Making sure culverts and bridges are safe and opened up so water can flow through with out any problems.
- Rebuilding and re-graveling our roads
- Plowing and clearing snow off the roads

We are a small crew and cannot be every where at the same time. We do our best to take care of everyone’s needs when it comes to our the roads.
We take pride in our work and try to take care of our roads the best we can.
We try continually to improve the roads around the county, hoping to leave them better than we found them.
