There have been multiple lightning caused fire starts in the northern part of Fergus County tonight. Local crews and agency partners have been on top of them. Due to the amount of lightning during this passing storm there is a possibility of new fire starts as we move into the morning and afternoon tomorrow . Thankfully the weather is favorable for firefighting. But if you do see smoke in the area please call 911. See MoreSee Less

When people think of EMS, they often picture ambulances and flashing lights. In rural communities like ours, it is much more personal than that.Behind every call is someone who left their dinner table, stepped away from family, got out of bed at 2:00 in the morning, or walked away from work without hesitation because someone in our community needed help.Wheatland County EMS is a very small team made up of volunteers and providers from all corners of the county. They are ranchers, parents, employees, friends, and neighbors who somehow find a way to maintain a 24/7 on-call schedule for this community. They cover long miles, difficult weather, late nights, and missed moments at home because they believe that when someone calls for help, somebody should answer.Rural EMS is not built on large numbers. It is built on commitment. It is built on sacrifice. It is built on people who care enough to show up, no matter the time, no matter the weather, and no matter how tired they are. This National EMS Week, we ask our community to take a moment to recognize and thank those who answer the call. Because in a small county, these aren’t just responders — they’re our neighbors, our friends, and the people standing beside us when we need them most.Thank you to the members of Wheatland County Ambulance Service and rural EMS providers everywhere. Your dedication does not go unnoticed.Sincerely, Director NelsonDirector, Wheatland County Emergency Management Co-Director, Wheatland County Ambulance Service See MoreSee Less
